Staying Socially Connected, Whilst Practicing Social Distancing

In these uncertain times, it is important that we maintain our sense of community by continuing to connect with and support each other.

Connect Online
The internet provides a great opportunity to connect.

Get creative with your connection:
- use video chat to have grandparents read a bedtime story to their grandchildren
- set a date and time to watch the same TV show together and message throughout
- join a social media page focused around your hobbies and share your interests with those from all around the world

Sprinkle Kindness Everywhere
Kindness is free, and one small act of kindness can create a ripple effect to spread positivity throughout the community.

Take the time to smile at a stranger, check in on a neighbour or buy some treats from a local business and share with friends (remember to wash your hands first.)

Grow your Gratitude
In current times it can be difficult to maintain a positive outlook, take the time to remind yourself of the things you are grateful for, and if you're grateful for a person, business or organisation - let them know!

If you need additional support, there are services available:

Covid-19 Update

With new restrictions in place our events and some projects have been postponed until further notice.

However, we are still operational and are available to provide assistance as needed and are providing updates and information on our social media pages.

Please also remember that NT Police continue to operate as usual. If you experience a crime or witness any suspicious behaviour please call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.

Clean Up Australia Day

On Sunday, 1st March, our Southern Regional Coordinator, Lauren Winter, joined Alice Springs Mayor, Damien Ryan at the Todd River for Clean Up Australia Day.

Please remember to pick up your rubbish and ensure our public areas are safe, clean and inviting for all.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday, 11 February was Safer Internet Day. Check out our top five tips below for a safer online experience.

1. 'Password' is not a good Password
Create strong, unique passwords for all of your critical accounts and avoid using easy to guess information such as your name, children’s names or dates of birth.

2. Don't Overshare
Be cautious of sharing too much information online, particularly surrounding identifying information or being away from your home for an extended period.

3. Keep your Privacy Settings On
Ensure your social media accounts are set to private and that you are only "followed by" or “friends” with people you know in real life.

4. Only Make Purchases from Secure Sites
When online shopping ensure the site is secure - you can identify secure sites by looking for a padlock icon in the URL bar and an address that starts with https (the S stands for secure) rather than simply http.

5. Be Click Smart
Don't click on suspect links or provide personal information online. If something sounds too good to be true - it probably is.

Scam Warnings

NHWNT have had reports of local businesses receiving telemarketing calls from an organisation claiming to be Neighbourhood Watch NT or from our "head office" in Melbourne! (Our offices are only in the NT!)

Please be aware that we do not make these types of calls. If you receive, or have received a similar call please let us know by emailing nhwnt@nhwnt.org.au

Additionally, Scamwatch have received multiple reports of phishing scams sent via email or text message that claim to be providing official information on Covid-19 but are attempts to obtain personal data.

For up to date scam information please visit scamwatch.org.au

Safety Survey

We would like to thank all of our members and the wider community who took part in our safety survey.

We are currently analyzing the results and tailoring our programs and services around these. More information will be available in the near future.
